Champion – 12 Bottles – Red – October
Your October club package is here!
2021 Division Pinot Noir “Un” 2x
A new chapter of Pinot greatness after the very challenging 2020 vintage.
We are thrilled with the 2021 Pinot Noir “Un” which just screams “PINOT NOIR” out of the glass. A near-perfect harmony between savory and fruity characteristics. The aromatics are pure heather, cherry, and mineral tones that lure you in. The palate is dense in fruit and character with balanced tannins and acidity that carry the wine completely and seductively to smiles and enjoyment. Drink up now or hold for days. months, years!
2021 Gamine Grenache 2x
A gorgeous Grenache layered with complexity.
This 50% whole cluster carbonic (in cement) 50% traditional ferment brings out the best in the Mae’s vineyard site and its pink granite soils. Pressed off and aged back in the cement it was fermented in plus a neutral barrel, the style typifies tension, depth and grace. Unfiltered, unfined, and just a little so2, Voila! Luxardo cherry and crushed plums dance with an anise spice and a base of wet slate. This wine has structure and depth with lots of fruit volume and intrigue.
2021 Division Pinot Noir “Deux” 2x
A crown jewel of the 2021 vintage. Single-site Pinot from one of the absolute best vineyards in the U.S.
Sometimes even we say WOW! The balance of savory, fruit, acidity, and tannin are all there and our style founded on texture in the wine is clearly in place. Brimming in briny-covered red fruits, the wine is classic Pinot meant for a long future. We look forward to watching this wine evolve for many years to come, but will happily enjoy this early drinking window.
2019 Division Cabernet Franc “Granit” 2x
Delicate yet muscular. Earthy yet approachable. Endless enjoyable.
We love Mae’s Vineyard (part of the Quady North Vineyards) in the Applegate Valley AVA in southern Oregon, and have worked with the grapes as the sole component of our Loire clones, dominated by a base of Cabernet Franc. Grower/Owner Herb Quady’s Mae’s Vineyard block slopes southeast into the Applegate Valley in one of the prettiest spots we’ve seen in the state. Loamy/clay and marine sediment overlay a large broken granite slab (yes granite!), which makes this a truly distinctive site to work with. Pop, pour, and pair with fine cuisine.
2017 Gamine Syrah
A study in tension and release.
Kate is so honored that her personal wine project, Gamine, has been so well received, compelling her to keep making wines influenced by the regions, styles and varieties that her mother, Sylviane, loves and drinks! (Think Champagne down to the Rhone.) Kate has been able to really get a good sense of Mae’s Vineyard site and has developed a fermentation style that is inspired by the juxtaposition of intensity and elegance of Syrahs from the Northern Rhone.
2015 One Barrel Syrah 2x
The One Barrel Challenge symbolizes a collective dream of making our beloved wine industry more accessible and inclusive regardless of color, class, or creed.
This 2015 Syrah comes from the original block on Herb Quady’s Applegate AVA Mae’s Vineyard. This organically farmed site sits on a rich vein of Oregon pink granite at high elevation, providing the Syrah both power and grace. The 2015 vintage was warm and dry, and as such, this wine carries a fair amount of fruit-forward dark berry and bramble intensity, coupled with the classic bacon fat note and mineral dense savory characters that Syrah is heralded for. Barrel aged for 18 months, and rested in bottle for 4 years before release, this wine is poised at the perfect spot to enjoy.
2015 Division Pinot Noir “Quatre”
A delicious Pinot from an unusually dry vintage in the PNW.
We are very pleased by how approachable, yet complex the wine was in its youth – likely due to it’s young vine nature. This very small “Quatre” cuvée was aged in French Oak; one single one-year old barrel and one neutral for 10 months, without any racking. The wine is minerally intense, layering in boysenberry and mushrooms. The fruit lends itself to the blue spectrum and the palate is demonstrating really nice textural weight and well-resolved tannins.
