We're looking for our 2016 harvest intern!
Have you ever looked challenges in the face and made them cower with fear from your awesome? Do you like to feel yourself getting stronger with Herculean feats of strength and mental acuity? Are you looking for your next adventure and have your heart set on Portland?
We have the opportunity for someone like you.
Division Wine Co. is not only too hip to be square but is also an awesome urban winery located in the heart of the very cool Richmond neighborhood in Portland, Oregon. We are looking for one very special harvest intern to join our ranks for the 2016 vintage. Just to make that clear, we are looking for only one bad-ass, go-gettin', grape-smashin', intern!
Harvest is hard, but we have fun. We offer an opportunity to cut your teeth in the wine industry and to learn a heck of a lot about how to make wine. This is a seasonal job that will last for as long as harvest does, but you can plan on working full time for at least 2 solid months with some part time work bookending the bulk of it all. Plan on starting mid-August and working through mid-November.
Here is a list of things you can expect to do because all of us do these tasks:
-Cleaning and sanitizing equipment (Winemaking is 95% cleaning, 3% talking about cleaning and 2% making wine.)
-Picking, sorting, de-stemming and crushing fruit from across the Pacific Northwest
-Fermentation monitoring (likely done with coffee in tow)
-Punchdowns and pumpovers (these are as awesome to do as they sound.)
-Filling, racking, and topping barrels (Great for stretchin' your back over!)
-Organizational activities (good vibes for the neat freaks!)
We need you to be able to do these things:
-Lift 50lbs repeatedly (You won't have time to go to the gym anyway!)
-Work long hours while maintaining a great attitude (we're all in this together and it's only for a couple months a year.)
-Have reliable transportation so you can get to work on time. Also, having a valid driver's license comes in handy.
-Feel comfortable reading and writing in English. (Kate speaks French and Spanish, Tom speaks French, Cass speaks woof & Luke studied Latin for 6 years, guess where that got him?)
We give stronger preference to those with the following:
-You have great taste in music
-You have a great sense of humor and love to laugh
-You want to learn how to drive a forklift or already know how.
-You have a solid collection of stories to share
Major benefits to working harvest with DWC:
-We're in Portland! (The world is literally your oyster and there are multiple places to actually eat oysters within walking distance from the winery.)
-We're small so you'll be part of everything
-We work with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gamay Noir, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Grenache, Cot & more!
-We're young and learning all the time so we'll likely learn something from you!
If all of this sounds like the place for you, we would love to hear from you! Please write us, send us your resume and tell us a bit about you. If you've never worked a harvest before, that's ok, everyone has to start somewhere and we're a great place for greenhorns.
